Beautiful Articulation in Confirming Ali's Commendation of the Companions in Nahj al-Balagha: An Inductive-Analytical Study

Abstract

This study investigates Ali ibn Abi Talib's (may Allah be pleased with him) perspective on the Companions, particularly the Muhajirun and Ansar, as presented in Nahj al-Balagha, aiming to clarify his relationship with them and address a central point of Sunni-Shi'a divergence. Employing inductive and analytical approaches, it scrutinizes narrations attributed to Ali. Key findings reveal: (1) Nahj al-Balagha, compiled by al-Sharif al-Radi, holds prominence among Shi'a, yet Sunnis question its authenticity due to the lack of verifiable chains of transmission; (2) Ali consistently praised the Companions as exemplars of devotion and asceticism; (3) He specifically extolled the Muhajirun for their virtues, scholarly insight, and contributions to jihad, with notable commendations for individual figures. The study highlights Ali's favorable stance toward the Companions while acknowledging sectarian debates over the text's reliability. It recommends further exploration of theological issues in Nahj al-Balagha and related Shi'a sources attributed to Ahl al-Bayt to deepen understanding of these perspectives.

الملخص

تتناول هذه الدراسة موقف علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه في كتاب "نهج البلاغة" على الصحابة، مع التركيز على المهاجرين والأنصار، حيث يهدف إلى تحليل الروايات المنسوبة إليه لفهم العلاقة بينه وبين الصحابة، وتقديم رؤية تحليلية تظهر مدى معالجة إحدى القضايا الجوهرية التي تثير الخلاف بين السنة والشيعة. وقد اتُبع في هذه الدراسة المنهجان: الاستقرائي، والتحليلي، وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى عدد من النتائج، أبرزها: 1. أن كتاب "نهج البلاغة" هو من جمع الشريف الرضي، وهو كتاب مشهور بين الشيعة، أما أهل السنة والجماعة فلا يرون صحة هذه الروايات، بل يعدون معظم ما في الكتاب لا أسانيد له. 2. أن علياً رضي الله عنه قد أثنى على عموم الصحابة رضي الله عنهم في كتاب "نهج البلاغة"؛ وأن الصحابة رضي الله عنهم كانوا أهل تعبد وتنسك. 3. أن علياً رضي الله عنه قد أثنى على المهاجرين رضي الله عنهم على وجه العموم؛ فبيّن أنهم أهل فضل وفقه وجهاد، ثم جاء في كلامه في كتاب "نهج البلاغة" ثناء على بعض أفراد المهاجرين. وأوصي الباحثين بتناول المسائل العقدية في كتاب نهج البلاغة وغيره من المصادر الشيعية المنسوبة لأئمة أهل البيت عليهم السلام.
