Abstract

Thesis Topic: Narrators whom Ibn ʿAdī either deemed weak or authenticated, and who were later examined and critiqued by al-Dhahabī in Tārīkh al-Islām. It aims to examine al-Dhahabī’s critical observations on Ibn ʿAdī’s evaluations of narrators, whether involving disparagement or accreditation. The significance, and rationale for selecting it, lies in the scholarly authority of the two distinguished ḥuffāẓ, Ibn ʿAdī and al-Dhahabī; giving due consideration to their assessments is a scholarly necessity. Among the primary objectives is to catalogue al-Dhahabī’s critiques of Ibn ʿAdī concerning the authentication and weakening of narrators. It adopts an inductive methodology, by collecting and analyzing al-Dhahabī’s critiques of Ibn ʿAdī, alongside a descriptive approach to examine the issue and present the views of scholars concerning the narrators in question. Section I: Narrators Deemed Weak by Ibn ʿAdī and Critiqued by al-Dhahabī — Comprising Six Subsections, and Section II: Weak Narrators Whom Ibn ʿAdī Treated with Leniency and Whom al-Dhahabī Critically Examined, Divided into Three Subsections. One of the most significant findings is that al-Dhahabī’s assessments of Ibn ʿAdī’s narrators are correct, with a recommendation to conduct a study of al-Dhahabī’s critiques of Abū Ḥātim.

الملخص

موضوع البحث: الرواة الذين ضعفهم ابن عديّ أو وثّقهم وتعقّبه الذهبي في تاريخ الإسلام. يأتي هذا البحث لبيان تعقبات الذهبي في كتابه تاريخ الإسلام على ابن عدي في كتابه الكامل في توثيق أو تضعيف بعض الرواة، ومن أسباب اختياره وأهميته أنّه يتعلق بإمامين حافظين ابن عدي والذّهبي فالعناية بأقوالهما واجب علمي، وكان من أهداف البحث حصر تعقبات الذهبي على ابن عدي في الرجال توثيقاً وتضعيفاً، وقد اتبعت المنهج الاستقرائي، وذلك من خلال جمع واستقراء تعقبات الحافظ الذهبي على ابن عدي، والمنهج الوصفي: من خلال دراسة المسألة وبيان أقوال العلماء في الرواة، وقد اشتمل على مبحثين: المبحث الأول: الرواة الذين ضعّفهم ابن عديّ وتَعَقَّبَه الذّهبيّ، وفيه ستة مطالب، والمبحث الثاني: الرواة الذين جوّد حالهم ابن عديّ وتَعَقَّبَه الذّهبيّ وفيه ثلاثة مطالب، وكان من أهم النتائج أنَّ الصواب مع الذهبي في تعقباته على ابن عدي، وتأتي التوصية بدراسة تعقبات الذهبي على أبي حاتم.
